Fatima is an ode to my mother — a single Black woman in NYC who carried grace, discipline, and impeccable style while raising two children on her own. I remember the sound of her heels clicking out the door each morning, the care she put into getting dressed, and how that ritual shaped my earliest understandings of beauty, resilience, and presentation.
Now living that rhythm myself — navigating work, art, and survival in the city — I created these images to honor her legacy and mine. Fatima continues my series 11433, an ongoing body of work that stages lived realities through a fashion lens. It’s personal, it’s nostalgic, and above all, it’s real — rooted in Black domestic life and the elegance we carry in even the most ordinary spaces.
